This structure houses Plymouth Rock, protecting it from vandals and souvenir seekers.
Plymouth Rock - The history of this rock is interesting. It wasn't identified as "the" rock that the Pilgrims landed on until 1741, 120 years after the fact. The current structure was built around it in 1920. Between 1740 and 1920, the rock was moved, broken, carved, and chipped away for souvenirs.
Governor William Bradford
The Mayflower II - It's a replica of the original Mayflower, which wasn't built as a passenger ship. My first thought was "Wow! It's so small!" How did they fit so many people in there for the trip?
The First Parish Church - This is the oldest congregation that has been in continuous operation in the United States. The congregation was started in 1606 in Scrooby, England. When the Pilgrims arrived in 1620, they built a building for worship in Plymouth. The current structure was built in 1899.
The 1749 Courthouse - This is the oldest wooden courthouse in the US. It has been in constant use since it was constructed. Currently, it houses a free museum.

WOW. That was a neat history lesson with photos! I am thankful that one of the first structures built was a house of worship. It is amazing to me that the courthouse is still standing.
